A message from the GPs at Westwood and Pickford Surgeries
At this time we are trying to help as many patients as possible whilst operating with reduced staffing numbers. To help us with this please do not visit the surgery unless you have been invited to. If you have a new continuous cough or fever stay at home and follow the government guidelines.
Please only contact the surgery if your matter is urgent. We are operating a telephone triage system. You will receive a telephone call from a Clinician if our receptionist cannot help you. Telephone calls will be kept to a minimum to facilitate the practice helping as many patients as possible. Alternatively please submit an E-consult via the practice’s website.
If you have a prescription request please submit this by using our online services If you do not have access to a computer, please ask a friend or relative to help you. If this is not possible, please post through the letter box. We have been inundated with prescription requests and together with the local chemists are working extremely hard to process these as quickly as possible.
We are aware of misinformation circulating on social media regarding the issuing of ‘rescue packs’ for those patients with pre-existing respiratory conditions such as COPD or asthma
Prior to the coronavirus outbreak we had a very small number of patients with COPD (not asthma) that were eligible for a rescue pack of antibiotics and steroids. These patients will be appropriately assessed and counselled by our healthcare professionals.
We will NOT be issuing any rescue packs to new patients during this crisis. If anyone has potential coronavirus, if they are unwell enough to require antibiotics they will need to be assessed appropriately (online, on the phone and if required face to face). For this reason it is NOT SAFE for us to issue new patients with medication “just in case” you fall unwell.
